Caribou Coffee Debuts a New Bakery Line

How does the “Duffin” stack up?

It’s surprisingly difficult to find a decent donut in downtown Minneapolis, aside from those at Angel Food Bakery. But Caribou Coffee recently released a mini-donut muffin—duffin?—that effectively does the trick. The four-bite, sugar-coated sweets are baked to achieve a fluffy, cakelike interior that’s lighter than the average fried donut but replicates the flavor. Between now and Dunkin’ Donuts inevitable arrival, it’s one of the tastiest and most convenient coffee pairings. • cariboucoffee.com

Even more treats

Caribou Coffee is rolling out a three-part food plan to up its edibles game, and Phase One is upon us. The recently-launched Signature Bakery line includes more than ten new items such as chewy blonde brownies studded with chunks of toffee—not too sweet, and addictive enough that you may order a second.

Many of the baked treats are miniature; thus, they’re the perfect size to go along with your midday Americano. Three-bite cupcakes come piled with a dollop of frosting just big enough to feel indulgent, and petite macarons bring a Parisian flair to chain coffee

Among the new sweets is Caribou’s own invention, the Mini-Donut Muffin, satisfying the constant search for a convenient-but-decent donut. The four-bite, sugar-coated sweets (can we call them “Duffins?”) are baked to achieve a fluffy, cakelike interior that’s lighter than the average fried donut, but replicates the flavor, great for dunking in a cup of joe.

Keep an eye out for the next phases of Caribou’s master munchies plan: three new hot sandwiches arrive in late March, and a full Ready-to-Eat line in the future that will include new salads, wraps, and more to make eating light on the go a breeze.
