Spectacular Parktacular in St. Louis Park

Published:

No one told me St. Louis Park, Minn., was going to be the next happenin' town. So I moved away—totally across the Twin Cities—and now it's all the rage, especially for young famillies.

There's the new-ish Excelsior & Grand shops, the stroller-perfect proximity to Uptown and the Chain of Lakes, but the peace and quiet, and cleanliness, of a true "small" town.

And this weekend they're continuing a tradition that started way back in the early 1900's. It's probably not the "biggest jubilee celebration ever" any more (as stated by the Minneapolis Daily Newspaper in 1914), but crowds still flock to foster that feeling of community we love about living in Minnesota.

It's called the Parktacular Celebration. (And truthfully, I like any event with a long, corny name. Call anything an "extravaganza" and I'm in!) The events are focused to Saturday, but range from Friday the 15th to Sunday, June 17th. Street food, cover bands, water slides—it's a quaint family festival that almost feels straight out of movie... Maybe hometown heroes Joel and Ethan Coen will honor it again some day.

In the meantime, get out there, spend some time with grandpa, dad, and all the father figures in your life, and enjoy a "Party in the Park."

Event buttons are $5/person and include a coupon card, door prize entry, and other deals.
