Waconia Welcomes You

You don’t have to go far to find a new adventure; just head into the outer metro and get to know more of Minneapolis-St. Paul’s neighboring cities. This month, grab the girls and take a night out or make a day trip to Waconia, 35 miles southwest of Minneapolis.

Last weekend, my mom and I enjoyed lunch at Lola’s Lakehouse. The restaurant features nautical décor, New England-inspired dishes and beautiful views of Lake Waconia. Whether you grab a quick bite of mini kobe beef burgers like we did (yum!) or stay for dinner, you are in for a treat. Try a variety of dishes from their seasonal menu, such as seafood lasagna, cedar plank roasted Arctic char and sea scallops Nantucket or baked stuffed lobster, clam chowder and stone-fired pizzas. Fridays and Saturdays, Lola’s features live music: Ragtown (Nov. 4), The Bill & Tom Show (Nov. 5), Andy Austin (Nov. 11) or Juds New Harmony (Nov. 12).

During hunting season, when the boys are out of town, there’s even more reason to grab the girlfriends and treat yourself. That’s why Waconia created D.E.AR. (Divas Enjoying Awesome Retail) for “hunting widows.” Tomorrow (Saturday, November 5), ladies are encouraged to shop, dine and play around town for this special event. There’s a fashion show, dining specials, wine tastings (from Parley Lake Winery) and much more.

For more fun in Waconia, schedule a girl’s night out for Wednesday, November 9. Taste some wine and have a few laughs at Sovereign Estate Wine’s presentation of Murder on the Disoriented Express, a comedy dinner theater performance. The show includes a three-course meal featuring prime rib paired with their Cabernet Franc ($75/person, seating limited).

You’ll soon learn, like Dara did, that, “Lola’s—and Waconia—has everything you need to make the next sunny day into a full-fledged vacation.”
