Fall is a great time of year to check books off your reading list—curling up under a blanket with a good book sounds like the perfect way to escape the falling temperature. If you’re in a reading rut or have already memorized all the books on your shelf, here are some cozy bookstores that stock local authors, famous favorites, and everyone in between:

Boneshaker Books
Tucked in the Seward neighborhood of Minneapolis, Boneshaker Books specializes in progressive literature, but also has a large selection of children’s books, and not to mention plenty of comfy chairs. The shop is completely run by volunteers who will deliver your online order by bicycle for free. 2002 23rd Ave. S., Minneapolis, boneshakerbooks.com

Common Good Books
Common Good started inside of Nina’s Coffee Café in St. Paul, and soon grew too big for its corner of the coffee shop. Their current location on Snelling, owned by Garrison Keillor himself, has much more room for browsing the shelves and for their ongoing events, talks, and monthly book club meetings. 38 S. Snelling Ave., St. Paul, commongoodbooks.com

Eat My Words
Enjoy a cup of tea while surrounded by a vast selection of titles at Northeast Minneapolis’ newest independent bookstore. While they specialize in used books, they also have a selection of works by local authors. And with over thousands of new, used, rare, and local books, there is something for every book lover. 1228 Second St. NE, Minneapolis, eatmywordsbooks.com

Magers & Quinn
With a huge selection of books by Minnesota authors, Magers & Quinn is the Twin Cities’ largest independent bookseller. The shop has been Uptown’s premiere location for new and used books since 1994, stocking many rare and unique titles on the second level, including collectable and one-of-a-kind editions. 3038 Hennepin Ave. S., Minneapolis, magersandquinn.com

Midway Used & Rare Books
Be prepared to spend your entire afternoon in Midway Books, pouring over the thousands of used books housed on the first and second floors. Paperbacks are always half off upstairs, and don’t forget to check out the clearance section in the basement. Midway Books is also continually buying used books to add to their collection. 1579 University Ave. St. Paul, midwaybook.com
