Coming Soon to a Small Screen Near You: The Ely Channel

Have you ever wondered how the housewives of St. Louis County live? Wanted to crack cases along with a local DNR? Longed to learn how chefs cook in the Iron Range? Or maybe you’ve been waiting for a show about saunas, portage, fishing bait, or muck lucks?

Well, you’re in luck. Today, Ely, Minn. is launching The Ely Channel, an all-Ely, all-the-time station dedicated to the rural, nature-based happenings in the northern Minnesota city.

Sounds real, right?

Sorry to disappoint those whose interest was spiked, but The Ely Channel that is “launching” today is actually just another one of the city’s April Fools’ Day pranks. Ely is quite famous for these stunts, which in the past have ranged from cutting off social media within its boarders to giving Dairy Queen branding rights to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area and bidding for the 2016 Summer Olympics.

While, sadly, you can’t really DVR episodes of Outfits of the Outfitters or Hibernatin’ with Larry, you can visit the fun town who comes up with these hoaxes. And there is a lot more there than just a sense of humor—Budget Travel named it one of the “coolest small towns in America” and National Geographic Traveler gave it a spot on its list of 50 places you must see.

Learn more about what you can do for fun while visiting Ely.
