$5 Off All The Organic Wine You Can Drink

Published:

The Fresh Taste Festival is this weekend. What’s that? It’s like our big Twin Cities Food and Wine Experience that sells out every winter—but smaller. It’s exclusively focused on organic, sustainable, and farm-to-table supporters, and it’s not sold out. Yet.

Interested? It’s this Sunday, and here’s what it will be like: You’ll show up at the big Nicollet Island Pavilion, enter, get a wine glass, and find about a zillion free little treats to eat and wonderful organic, biodynamic, or sustainable wines to sample. What’s there to eat? There will be some 60 food booths of every sort, representing restaurants such as JP American Bistro, Corner Table, the Birchwood Café, the Nicollet Island Inn, and the Oceanaire; and food producers such as River Chocolates and Pastureland dairy.

What’s to drink? There will be a whole bunch of vintners and wine distributors pouring no fewer than 100 different bottlings of sustainable wines. (Sustainable wines are about to be the next big thing, I think, not just because of the environmental impact but because of the taste in the bottle; lots of wine people are currently thinking that irrigated, petrochemical-fertilizer soaked vineyards make really lousy wine.) So, you’ll drink, you’ll eat, you’ll go out on the patio and sit on a picnic bench and look at a picture perfect view of the Minneapolis skyline while the songbirds flit about, then you’ll go and drink some more wine. And you can do this as long as you want, or at least from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

How much is this feel good, zero-waste bacchanal going to run you? Ordinarily it would be $55, but, for friends of the blog, it’s $50. Go to www.freshtaste.com and enter the following code: ORGANIC.

For all of you who complain that the Twin Cities Food & Wine Experience is too crowded, that it was better years ago when no one knew about it but you: Here’s your chance to get in on the ground floor of the new one.
