DeRushaEats: Top Five Lunches In Downtown Mpls.

Published:

I've worked in downtown Minneapolis at WCCO-TV for about seven-and-a-half years now. That's approximately 1875 lunches. (I may have eaten half of those in the Nicollet Mall area.) It gets boring, after awhile. How many meals can you have at Chipotle? Potbelly? Jimmy John's? So I started thinking about some of my top five lunch spots downtown:

Masa: The $10 lunch special is a great deal. You get to pick three: I love the tortilla soup, guacamole with veggies, and pork carnitas taco.

La Belle Crepe: It's tucked away at 8th & Nicollet, but La Belle Crepe makes fresh sweet and savory crepes, perfect for a nice filling lunch.

D'Amico Kitchen: It's a short walk to Hennepin Avenue, but Chambers Kitchen makes an incredible meatball sandwich and fantastic fresh pastas. (I actually was with Dara for the lunch she wrote about here.)

Kabobs Indian Grill: How does a $5 lunch buffet with authentic, delicious Indian food sound? Kabob's is on the 4th floor food court of Gaviidae Common. It's delicious.

La Loma Tamales: A lot of people don't know about this small, new outpost inside the Northstar Building downtown. La Loma makes the best tamales in the Twin Cities. Get the chicken or pork tamale for $2.15, or spend $1 more and enjoy the Oaxaca—a spicy, pork tamale. Cheap, meaty, delicious.

That's my top five. What's yours?
