New Food on Deck in Lowertown

In the past few years, Lowertown has become a destination ’hood for foodies. With the St. Paul Saints moving into the area with the new CHS Field (head there this weekend for Minnesota Monthly’s Grillfest), there’s more reason than ever to head over to check out the latest options. On this week's episode of Moveable Feast, Rachel Hutton and John Birge chat about new neighborhood standouts.

Public Kitchen + Bar, housed in a historic building with massive windows overlooking Mears Park, features modern spins on classic dishes, including a killer cheeseburger topped with jalapeno jam and bourbon-glazed bacon—better (and probably cheaper) than what’s available inside the stadium walls. And nearby fine-dining restaurant Heartland has revamped its bar menu to include upscale takes on baseball-food favorites including lamb, pork, and veal burgers, plus fried cheese curds paired with apricot ketchup and a corn dog made with smoked kielbasa.
