The Next Big Designer?

For 44 years and running, Minnesotans have braved the cold of February to get a glimpse of the future. The future of fashion, that is, with the University of Minnesota College of Design‘s senior fashion show.

This year’s show, Twelve, features the work of 11 apparel-design seniors—a celebration of years of work and limitless creativity. Collections range from traditional to modern, fanciful to concrete. Striped resort wear from Jennifer Robertus will make you want to book the first cruise you can find, while Sara Lopez’s contemporary designs, which alter and restrict the way the wearer moves, will make you rethink the impact and purpose of clothing. And Lizzie Hillmann’s collection, inspired by the gothic architecture and cathedrals in Paris, evokes a sense of nostalgia and wonder.
