Mona Williams at the Mall of America

Minneapolis clothing boutique Mona Williams has opened its Mall of America location, just in time for Memorial Day weekend. Unlike its original Northeast location, which focused on high-end designer contemporary and vintage resale, the new location spotlights some of the new, European lines that owner Patric Richardson has been slowly adding to the store. The most dominant is Copenhagen's Baum und Pferdgarten, a line known for its luxe wardrobe staples, premium basics-with-a-twist, and slightly eccentric aesthetic. Other lines include Peter Jensen, Autumn Cashmere, and luxury basics line Majestic Paris. Coming soon will be Paris brand Each x Other, unisex raincoat line Norwegian Rain, and Wool & the Gang, which allows shoppers to choose between buying a readymade sweater or a bag of yarn and pattern. There's also a couple of racks of some of Richardson's top designer resale pieces, Dub & Drino's brightly patterned tights and gloves, and silk and wool scarves by Baum und Pferdgarten.

The store, which Richardson has described as "international style with a Minnesota sensibility," also features an expanded apothecary highlighting cult products Richardson has culled from around the world, including Portuguese toothpaste, eggwhite soap from Belgium, and volcanic-ash soap from Iceland, plus a selection of chocolates and a broad selection from cult eco-friendly laundry detergent line the Laundress. The store makes great use of its three large windows with imaginative displays, and the brightly lit space helps it stand out amidst the cacophony of the mall.

Apart from Hammer Made, Brickmania Toyworks, the I Love Minnesota gift shop, Indulge & Bloom floral shop, and Horst Rechelbacher's Intelligent Nutrients, the Mall of America has few local tenants—could this be the start of the mall bringing on more local tenants?

Now open, Mall of America, 132 West Market, Bloomington, mallofamerica.com and monawilliams.com
