Minnesota Milliner Karen Morris Debuts Spring Hat Line

Karen Morris first caught my eye last spring while on the hunt for Minnesota hat makers for a Kentucky Derby–inspired spread in our May 2015 issue. Now, she’s back with a new spring collection that’s even more lovely than the last. Dubbed “Charm & Happiness,” the line combines traditional seasonal colors (yellow, blue, lilac, pink, and peach) with minimal silhouettes—a modern twist on the traditional Kentucky Derby–style hat.

The St. Paul–based, Hong Kong–born designer, who trained with top milliners in Britain, Australia, and the United States, will debut the new line this weekend at a preview party at Uptown boutique Showroom on Saturday, where customers can pre-order from the line as well as make custom orders—just in time for your Kentucky Derby parties. Pre-orders can also be placed at the Minneapolis Craft Market‘s Arctic Market this Sunday, where Morris will also have some past-season hats on sale. And brides-to-be, mothers of the bride, and bridesmaids should be sure to check out Morris’s newest collection of bridal hats as part of a bridal trunk show on Friday with local line Sonelle Couture.

Hat lovers may also want to check out Morris’s new hat boxes, custom-made in wood and imported from Spain. They’ll be available for purchase online at kmhats.com beginning March 14 in a variety of sizes.
