Behind the Seams: Costume Designing August Wilson’s Plays: Twin Cities costume designer Mathew LeFebvre speaks about his experience designing costumes for August Wilson plays at Penumbra Theatre during this free program in conjunction with the current exhibition Penumbra Theatre at 40: Art, Race and a Nation on Stage. The evening also includes a tour of the exhibition, which features LeFebvre's original costumes and costume sketches. Stephanie Lake Design Trunk Show + Meet the Mini Horses: Twin Cities designer Stephanie Lake is opening her home to the public for a rare trunk show of her one-of-a-kind jewelry designs. Proceeds from sales benefit This Little Horse, a division of This Old Horse nonprofit sanctuary for retired, rescued, and recovering horses. A pair of miniature horses, which are trained therapy animals, will be in attendance. For those who aren't able to attend, all online sales through Thursday at noon will also benefit This Old Horse. Fashion & Style in the 1800s: Learn about the history and myths of 19th century fashion during this talk led by Minnesota Historical Society program director Jayne Becker at the historic Fort Ridgely. Behind the Seams at Northern Spark: Part of the free dusk-til-dawn art event Northern Spark, this installation styled after a garment factory encourages attendees to learn about fast fashion, labor standards, and climate change's relationship to the garment industry. Garment workers, who will be paid a minimum wage of $15 an hour, will sew re-purposed t-shirts that will be available to "buy" for those who make a specific personal commitment during the event to help change the garment industry.
