Caribou Coffee's Healthy New Snacks

Coffee chain makes it easy to eat on the run—mindfully

After coffee-drinkers requested more food options at the cafés, Caribou Coffee launched a three-part plan to roll out a new menu of treats. The brand has lived up to its promise thus far: Bakery goodies such as the “duffin” (donut muffin) and miniature macarons are perfectly petite accompaniments for an afternoon Americano, and the ham and Gruyere pretzel-roll sandwich has proven to be a satisfying lunch.

The last phase of the plan was recently set in motion, and Caribou is now catering to the lighter-eating crowd with healthier snack and meal options—think snack boxes featuring fresh fruit and cheese, two new salads, and turkey and chicken wraps. The “healthier options” menu includes vegetarian and gluten-free fare and dishes with plenty of protein, too.

Caribou sent over some of the new meals for sampling, each of which was well-portioned for a light lunch. Garden Salad greens and veggies come as crisp and crunchy as those from any corner bistro, and the most pleasant surprise was the Chicken Caesar Wrap. Packed with veggies and tangy Caesar dressing, the portable treat came in at just the right size: bigger than a snack but not gargantuan-burrito-sized. Another reason to frequent Caribou for more than the coffee.
