Get a Jumpstart on Spring with a Compost Bin or Rain Barrel

Published:

If you're like me, once late February hits you're thinking about your garden and counting down to spring. This year, take an opportunity to improve your carbon footprint while you grow a more impressive garden. The Recycling Association of Minnesota is ready to help you get started. They're hosting a sale on rain barrels and compost bins.

Rain barrel: $69
Compost bin: $55

What you need to do: Supplies are limited. Pre-order your barrel and/or bin from one of the location links listed below, and pick up at the assigned location and time.

Minnetonka: April 15-16
St. Paul: April 30 - May 1
Chisago County: May 21
Elk River: April 9
St. Cloud: May 13-14

More about composting: Compost is beneficial for so many reasons—it aerates clay soils, increases moisture in dry soils, reduces the amount of waste you contribute to landfills, and fortifies the soil with nutrients which in turn fortify your plants. The average American throws out about 1,200 lbs. of compostable waste annually. Research suggests that composting all that waste could reduce your carbon footprint.

More about rain barrels: A rain barrel can help you save some money on your water bill while protecting Minnesota's lakes and rivers—simply by collecting rain runoff from your home.

More about the Recycling Association of Minnesota (RAM): RAM is a nonprofit organization committed to promoting resource conservation through waste prevention, reuse, recycling, and purchasing practices using the most cost effective and environmentally sound methods available in the state.
