Savvy Mom: A Sweet Spot Gets Even Sweeter

After staring at my computer screen for hours, one of my favorite destinations for a quick getaway is Dogwood Coffee in Calhoun Square. It’s in a quiet corner across from Kitchen Window, full of light even on the grayest days. I love to sit at the bar facing Hennepin Avenue and people watch while I enjoy my espresso drink, bubbly water, and a treat. I wouldn’t have thought it was possible, but Dogwood has now increased their awesome-ness. In addition to a variety of pastries from Rustica Bakery, Dogwood now has the addictive macaroons (more affectionately known to some as “crackeroons”) from Michelle Gayer at Salty Tart. On my rececnt visit, I got a cookie and cappuccino for there, and a four pack of the dense, chewy macaroons to take home (theoretically to share with my family), then headed to Magers and Quinn across the street to browse for books. And I still got home in time to meet the kids at the bus. It was a perfect afternoon mini break.

A few weeks ago I wrote about Izzy’s Ice Cream and Sweets Bakery‘s new neighbor, Kopplin’s Coffee. What is your favorite cluster of goodness in the cities?
