Minneapolis Public Schools Culinary and Nutrition Services has some delicious news. Chefs from many of Minneapolis’ top restaurants have joined together to create The True Food Chef Council, which aims to bring more whole, unprocessed foods into schools. Fellow TC Taste writer, Jason DeRusha touched upon this program last week, but when I saw the list of participating chefs and restaurants, I might have drooled. The array of talent as well as the variety of food expertise is amazing. The council will educate students about whole foods, as well as focus on the diverse food cultures of the city by helping to develop new recipes. And during October, the restaurants will raise funds for salad bars at four Minneapolis schools: Marcy Open, Jefferson, Elizabeth Hall, and Seward Montessori. Check with the restaurant for what their October offer is, and which school they’re supporting. When you eat at these restaurants–which you were planning to do anyway, right?–you’re doing good by supporting a salad bar AND supporting a chef who’s doing good by improving school lunches. That’s a lot of goodness.
