In Dissonance and Repair, painters Barbara Kreft and Kimberly Benson explore abstraction through similar channels, investigating ideas such as ideal beauty and cultural representations of nature. Their complex compositions – richly layered, boldly gestural and pulsing with color – reveal their influences upon one another, yet their approaches to painting are completely different. As they explain in their artist statement, “Kreft works to unify a painting into a harmonious assemblage – a delicate process of repair – while Benson searches for a greater level of visual dissonance, a space where energies and matter are allowed to run unfettered.” The artists will be present at the opening reception on Saturday, April 14, 6-8 pm.
