MINNEAPOLIS, JANUARY 17, 2016 - FOOR Folx, the next exhibition opening at Intermedia Arts on February 16, uses interviews, photography, film, the written word, and more to explore often-taboo topics around class and class mobility. FOOR Folx delves into the experiences of FOrmerly poOR folks (FOOR Folx), asking questions like What does it look like to live in between the lower, middle, and upper classes? What knowledge do FOOR Folx hold and where do they choose to apply it? How does being FOOR affect current and future ambitions?
Featuring work by Twin Cities artists and community leaders Adja Gildersleve, Anna Min, and Tina Cho, FOOR Folx aims to inspire conversation around often-ignored issues such as the effects of the acquisition of wealth and privilege on people’s personal and professional lives as well as on whole communities over time.
As a part of this exhibition, the film Historically Robbed: Minneapolis explores the historical aspect of colonialism and capitalism, as it connects to socioeconomic status. The goal is to leave audiences with an understanding of the maelstrom of identities and emotions that contribute to being FOOR, and how it has uniquely shaped the consciousness of the marginalized middle class.
FOOR Folx opens on February 16 and remains on display through April 8, 2017. An opening reception featuring opportunities to connect with the artists and view the film is on February 23, 2016 at Intermedia Arts from 6-8PM.
