Step inside the creative world of sculptor Kim Simonsson and discover his fascinating, life-sized, "moss-covered" children, animals and other mysterious characters. Described by Finnish designer Kaj Kalin as the “spirits of dangerous toys,” Simonsson’s work combines a ceramic heritage with the modern trends of eastern Nordic pop culture.
Get a “First Look” at The Fantastical Worlds of Kim Simonsson during the exhibition preview party on Friday, April 20. Enjoy gallery chats with the artist, create your own ceramic creature with Northern Clay Center, listen to live music by Finnish-American folk singer Diane Jarvi, and learn about moss from around the world with U of M plant scientists. Light bites and beverages will be available for purchase from FIKA, ASI’s café.
