To celebrate light during the darkest time of the year, the Science Museum of Minnesota will inspire family and friends of all ages with the second installment of Illumination: Light Up The Night, an interactive showcase of activities and events embracing the celebration of light. The visually-stimulating experience will take place on three weekends from Dec. 13 to 15, Dec. 20 to 22 and Dec. 27 to 29 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m.
The museum will sell food and beverages at Chomp, a bar with featured menu items, specialty glow-in-the-dark cocktails and ‘Night Light’ blonde stout on draft from BlackStack Brewing exclusive to the event. Beer enthusiasts can only taste the limited-edition brew at Illumination or BlackStack’s release party on December 4.
Other activities include:
Make your own glow-in-the-dark slime, build an illuminated lantern, and create art from clips of the Omnitheater’s giant film reels;
Join other visitors in smashing bricks and orbs in a large-scale, light-themed video game;
Create and release snowflakes into a life size, walk-through snow globe;
Experiment with an LED Lego zipline and participate in glowing parachute drops;
Catch the Glow Show Science Live Theater presentation and watch a real lava pour;
Visit Ballopalooza, a new experience that gives you simple machines and vacuum hoses to launch balls at targets and collect them again; and much more
Admission for Illumination: Light Up the Night is included with museum admission: free for museum members and children ages zero to three, $18.95 for adult non-members and $12.95 for children ages 4-12 years and senior citizen non-members. Discounted options are available for select groups. Attendees are encouraged to share their experience on social media using the hashtag #ShareYourDiscovery.
