MUDRĀ: a dance concert and art exhibition by Mesma Belsaré, a Boston-based Bharatanātyam (South Indian classical) dancer, actor, and visual artist.
The concert explores connections between Indian classical dance, painting and sculpture through movement, music and spoken text. Belsaré engages with stories, paintings and dance to bring forth the secular messages behind these seemingly esoteric images; a ‘gesture’ to demonstrate the power of the Arts as an antidote to cultural intolerance.
An exhibition of Belsaré’s oil paintings and pen-and-ink drawings will feature in the adjacent space.
Program is supported by NEFA (New England Foundation for the Arts) and RASA © Re-presenting Arts of South Asia.
