NCC’s March featured artists draw inspiration from varied experiences and each enjoy different aspects of functional ceramic wares. DeArmond uses traditional handbuilding techniques and offers illustrations born of the marriage between past and present imagery and conversation. Riley’s strong but soft, contoured forms play with layers of pattern and texture influenced by the “imperfect and ever-changing” landscape near her home to create touchable, calm pots. And, Toomey holds respect for the cyclical movements of production as well as the patterns both on and between the finished work.
