This event occurs weekly, on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
New Paintings, a SPOTLIGHT exhibition of paintings by Dan Mason, opens March 10th at Groveland Gallery. Mason has been exhibiting in Minneapolis for over three decades. He studied art at St. Olaf, received his MFA from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and recently retired after twenty years of teaching art at North Hennepin Community College in Brooklyn Park. Mason’s paintings are included in public and private collections throughout the Midwest, including General Mills, Target Corporation, Methodist Hospital, Wells Fargo, and the Federal Reserve Bank, among others.
Mason describes his compositions as “abstractions of landscape, architecture and space.” He continues: “In some cases, the settings are imagined, with forms that suggest hillsides, cities, figural trees, harbors and other bodies of water. With others, I draw on memories of specific places: the waters of Gunflint Lake in Minnesota, the coastline of Maine and South Africa or the urban settings of Brooklyn and Chicago. The geometry of these places provides a structure on which I explore color, light, texture and illusions of space. Seeking to find order out of chaos, I strive for images that convey and promote a sense of peace.”
The artist will be present at the opening reception Saturday, March 10th from 2-5 pm. The opening reception and exhibition runs concurrently with Exit Strategy by Tim Tozer. Both shows continue through April 14, 2018.
