No Boys In The Booth:Kristina Sky

No Boys In The Booth 1st Anniversary!

The “No Boys in The Booth” event series created by local DJ known usually as simply “Tee”,  is quickly making a name for itself in the Minneapolis electronic music scene. There exists a truly unique vibe when you have all females running the show in a predominantly male dominated industry. With the help of well known local promotional companies, distinguished artists Kristina Sky, Sandra Collins and J.Phlip joined Tee behind the decks for the kick off parties. For her birthday this year, she welcomes local house music legend BIG MAMA J, her sassy sax player, CORA and her friend and mentor, KRISTINA SKY! You won’t want to miss this very special night.

With records out on Armin Van Buuren’s Armada, Paul Van Dyk’s Vandit and U.S. mega-label Ultra, while holding a coveted residency with West Coast power-house promoter Giant at Avalon Hollywood (#49 DJ Mag Top 100 Clubs 2013), it’s easy to see why Kristina Sky is one of America’s brightest EDM stars. Born and raised in Los Angeles, she’s been DJ’ing to thousands of enthusiastic clubbers since 2002, coast-to-coast in the U.S., and around the world—from China to the Philippines, Ecuador to Guatemala and Canada to Costa Rica. If you haven’t had a chance to experience one of Kristina’s live sets yet, anyone who has will tell you that you’re missing out. Her passion and love for the music is undeniable and her ultimate goal is clear—to move you on that dancefloor—leaving you with a memorable soundtrack to the night and coming back for more.

TEESO (Birthday Set) | SAX SELLS

TeeSo’s events and personal performances including her part in the duo with Cora Baker-Lietz, “Sax Sells”  would have you thinking she has been doing this since the early 90’s because of the feel at the shows that can only be described as reminiscent of the early 2000’s party vibe; smiles on everyone’s faces, lots of laughing, and of course, plenty of dancing. TeeSo’s crowds are awesomely unique in their diversity yet absolutely united in their love to dance and have a good time. It’s often hard to put into words what separates one dance event from another, especially with a growing scene but the difference is Tee. She wears many hats and once you meet her, you will understand what sets her shows apart. She’s a true lover of the music, of the scene, and a huge supporter of other local musicians. When she’s not hosting parties for T’s House Music and Promotions, planning events or playing at a show, she’s attending other local dance music events in support. Her sounds gravitate towards house and tech house and are happy, inspiring, sometimes a little comical, and always uplifting, all qualities that make absolute sense when you meet her. She has a way of sneaking a recognizable track into a uniquely curated set so as to catch the newcomers to the scene to let them know they are welcome too. This is probably why she's able to draw big crowds to her shows which are often largely spread by word of mouth. An asset to the Minneapolis music scene and someone to keep an eye on, Tee has much in the works for 2018 and beyond.

Big Mama J hails from Minneapolis, where she has been fortunate to be a part of an incredible house music community for longer than she cares to admit. She’s also been around long enough to know that, no matter how far musical styles may stray, the pendulum always swings back to her first love, house. BMJ has played for countless parties and promoters from London to Fargo (including her own wedding), held numerous residencies, and opened for headliners from Kaskade and DJ Collette to Danny Howells and Kimball Collins, and everyone in between. Above everything else, BMJ believes in the power of music to bring people together. Few things in the world can compare to sharing a common bond that is the dance floor, and her goal is to get you on it. BMJ never actually thought she’d play for people. She bought decks because she loves how music makes her feel and buys tracks based on how they move her soul. The fact that people still dig what she does is still unreal to her. She’s excited to be a part of her very first “No Boys in the Booth” and to help bring in the best year yet for the birthday girl!
