Sometimes the surface is the result of deliberate gesture and the aggression of the fire, as in the stoneware and porcelain work of Bill Gossman. Sometimes the surface shows evidence of years of storytelling, the merging of ancient and modern text with culturally relevant patterns, as carefully orchestrated in the work of Forrest Lesch-Middelton. And, sometimes, the surface marries two creative voices —one linear and one gestural— to illustrate a body of work created by Liz Pechacek and completed in tandem with painter, Caroline Mecklin.
