Tea and Textiles: Japanese Folk Textiles with Mary Pawlcyn of Indigo

Apr 20, 2017
07:00 PM until 08:30 PM

Join us for our next Tea and Textiles with Mary Pawlcyn of Indigo Thursday, April 20th, 2017 at 7 pm. We will be exploring the world of Japanese Folk Textiles.

These traditional ‘country’ textiles of late 19th and early 20th century Japan are often overshadowed by exhibitions of the more widely admired silk kimono and theatre costumes of the urban environment.

Beautiful in their own right, and often just as technically complex, they present a fascinating picture of everyday, rural life in Mingei, Japan.

Mary Pawlcyn has over 40 years of experience with textiles, starting with her degree in Textile Design from RISD in 1971 and moving through a year of intensive weaving, vegetable dying and spinning in England and Wales, constructing costumes and hats at the Guthrie, and running a weaving and teaching studio in Minneapolis. Since 1979 she and her husband and partner, John Byrnes have run Indigo, a store selling traditional Asian and Tribal arts, textiles, antiques, folk arts and furniture.

Space is limited, RSVP to khazana@khazana.com

This is a free event. Tea and cookies will be provided!
