Water Movement - Opening Reception

Apr 6, 2013
06:00 PM until 09:00 PM

Three artists explore the life source and change agent: water. Water movement in plants, in soil, in cells, surface movement in rivers lakes and the sea: they use these as the connecting metaphor for their diverse artwork.

Maris Gilbert shares her passion for the interconnected marine eco-systems of mangroves with her paintings saturated with the light and shadows found on the coasts of her native Florida. Deborah Foutch's fiber mixed media pieces reflect the diversity of color textures and light present in Midwestern rivers and the systems that feed them. Kristen Treuting's love of gardening brought her to her medium of gourd art and she uses gourds as a foundational structure. She finds a sense of flow in the shapes that speak to her and then embellishes each with carving, staining, and burning to reveal the piece she “sees” in the gourd she has grown from a seed.
