Jason: With the Super Bowl looming, the North Loop is going to be red hot. Here are a few places to consider beyond the neighborhood’s most popular eateries (Spoon & Stable, the Bachelor Farmer, and Smack Shack).

The Loop Bar: The freshly renovated Loop isn’t just a late-night bro-thronged party spot anymore. The bar is enormous, and the food is solid. I always order the cheese curds and buffalo chicken wontons. Happy hour runs from 2 to 6 p.m. and again after 9 p.m.

Dalton & Wade:  Tucked away a block off of Washington Avenue, Dalton & Wade has an incredible bourbon collection, with more than 100 varieties plus another 100 whiskeys. Prices are reasonable, and the staff knows its brown liquor.

Joy: This former collection of nondescript warehouses has become the most desirable address in Minneapolis. Dine like a local in these cozy, casual spots.

Nolo’s Kitchen: Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, this neighborhood hangout is a cozy spot to dig into a hearty breakfast of malted waffles with bananas, Nutella, and marshmallow fluff, or a chili-filled bread bowl. The food is all recognizable and easy to pronounce but made with skills to impress even the most jaded foodie.

Parlour: This subterranean bar somehow manages to both push the envelope of cocktail culture and retain the friendly soul of a dive. It’s like Cheers with the city’s best Manhattan.
