Summer in Minnesota means pushing a small boat into the water and then spending what can be hours upon hours anticipating a bite. As great as all that sounds, it is possible to get the reward without the wait via the walleye sandwich at Tavern on Grand. This St. Paul institution has been around for almost 30 years and delivers exactly what its giant, fish-shaped sign promises: some of the best walleye around. Don’t mess with tradition and go straight for the fried, flaky fish tucked into a toasted bun with just a little lettuce, tomato, and tartar sauce.
