Best Shopping Mall Restaurants

Jason and Joy recommend where to refuel at Ridgedale, Southdale, and the Galleria

Restaurant recommendations from MnMo food critics Jason DeRusha and Joy Summers.

Jason’s Picks

It’s the holiday season and whether you’re buying or returning, you’re going to need something to eat. Luckily, mall food has advanced beyond Sbarro and Cinnabon. Not that there’s anything wrong with Sbarro or Cinnabon!

Field Day by Good Earth: Good Earth, near Rosedale and inside the Galleria, is Parasole’s most successful concept by sales volume. Field Day is its new counter-service spinoff offering healthy fast casual dishes, including grain bowls with kimchi and a poached egg or turkey meatballs in a whole-grain pita. (Ridgedale, Minnetonka)

DeLeo Bros. Pizza: A New York-style foldable pizza? Garlic knots? Calzones? DeLeo is the only locally owned restaurant inside Southdale. It’s next to the AMC Theatres and has pinball and video games, including old-school Frogger. (Southdale, Edina)

Joy’s Picks

Southdale is the oldest indoor mall in the country and the site of my one-time career piercing ears for Claire’s. Shopping there or at the nearby Galleria means an excuse to also grab a bite at one of these tasty eateries.

Lakeshore Grill: Department store dining may be a dying breed, but take a moment inside Macy’s Lakeshore Grill for a little breaded walleye and remember what it was like back when upscale shopping was a full luxury experience. (Southdale, Edina)

Crave: Yes, Jason, I do sometimes happily eat at a (local) chain. You know, sometimes you just want a crowd pleaser. Whether you’re in the mood for flatbread, sushi, or a burger and a decent glass of wine, Crave has every corner of the menu covered. (Galleria, Edina)
