Great River Road Restaurants

Where the food is as tasty as the scenery is beautiful

Restaurant recommendations from MnMo food critics Jason DeRusha and Joy Summers

Joy’s Picks:

It’s not summer until I can hit the open road and watch this gorgeous state unfurl before me. Take a cruise down the Great River Road to watch the landscape change and see how lovely our little corner of the world truly is.

A.T. the Black and White: What was once a hamburger stand is now a modern, positively adorable cafe. The burgers are still a great bet—including the turkey burger with green apple, Fontina cheese, peppery bacon, and a maple Dijon sauce. (Little Falls)

• Signatures: Located on a golf course in the shadow of the bluffs, this restaurant’s location is positively breathtaking. Take in the scenery with a perfect gin daisy cocktail and the fresh, seasonal fare. Much of the produce is grown on site. (Winona)

Jason’s Picks:

• Douglas Lodge: There’s something incredible about visiting the source of the Mississippi River. The historic lodge at Itasca State Park offers three meals daily and a view overlooking the forest. (Park Rapids)

• Kaddy’s Cafe: This family-owned cafe amidst the rolling bluffs of the state’s southeastern tip serves breakfast all day and a great Friday fish fry. (La Crescent)
