These are just a few of the Twin Cities shopping and style highlights for the next two weeks:
There's a whole lot you can say about Black Friday, but here are some things you might be interested in knowing:
- Thanksgiving and Black Friday store hours for big national brands like Target, Macy's, Kohl's, JCPenney, and Ulta can be found here.
- Mall of America is closed for Thanksgiving and open for Black Friday at 5 a.m., and there's a new parking app that will hopefully make it a little easier to find a spot.
- The deals are good—not like that's a surprise. For instance, made-to-wear menswear company Indochino is having its biggest Black Friday ever. Get up to 70 percent off at their showroom in Mall of America and on online purchases with the code BLKFRI (and, for Monday in-store and online shoppers, CYBMON).
- Want another Black Friday example? Check out the Northside's Black Friday and Small Business Saturday pop ups at the Theodore Wirth Trailhead, NEON, and more. And, the fun continues with Small Business Saturday, where even more businesses are involved.
#iamGREATNESS Kid's Fashion Show
Ice Cream Bow Ties, a fashion brand founded by then 11-year-old Aniki Allen, is hosting a fashion show that celebrates youth fashion and entrepreneurship. He'll have new designs (to give you an idea, his first bow tie was made out of Legos), as will 13-year-old Sofia Berglund, the founder and designer of StudTies. They are joined by Houston White of Houston White Men's Room and the Children's Orchard. Enjoy the show and refreshments from two local youth food vendors: 13-year-old Jaequan Faulkner, owner of Mr. Faulkner's Old Fashioned Hot Dogs—and already of The Steve Harvey Show, Teen Vogue, and CNN fame—and 15-year-old Jerilyn Mariee Sheppheard, the owner of Yumyum Brownies. Nov. 24 from 4-6 p.m. @ Indigenous Roots Cultural Arts Center, 788 E Seventh St., St. Paul, icecreambowties.com.

International Contemporary Pearls Design Finalists Show
Max's is one of only three U.S. retailers that will be showcasing winning pieces of the Cultured Pearl Association of America's Ninth Annual International Pearl Design Competition. Sixteen pearl jewelry pieces will be at Max's starting Black Friday through Dec. 7, including those in the feature photo. Ellen Hertz, Max's owner, got to individually pick out which pieces would be showcased at her store, so she went for not only some of the winning designs, but 10 honorable mention pieces that would really connect with her community here. IIDA Northland's Fusion + Fashion event was Friday, Nov. 9. The challenge was to create an outfit half made out of design industry materials and inspired by one of the First Avenue stars. One of our favorite pieces? The White Stripes (top row, third from the left). Before the red and white focal backdrop revealed its vibrant glory, it was folded up into a window-blinds triangle, hiding the model's upper body and arms completely, leaving a very distinctly avant garde feel that turned into a eureka moment when the movie clip showed the line work in the White Stripes' albums and visual aesthetic.
When you get invited out to @iidanorthland’s Fusion + Fashion by the amazingly hip @vela.creative and it turns out to be even more awesome and inspiring than you ever anticipated. . . . . #iidafusion2018 #fusionandfashion #iidanorthland #innovation #catwalk #runway #workit #commercialinteriors #buildingmaterials #dragqueens #justsayyes #nottoooldyet #fridayvibes #babyimastar
