Jeffers Petroglyphs Historic Site

Map27160 County Road 2
Comfrey 56019

Description:

What seems at first glance to be a normal Minnesota prairie is actually a historical site filled with ancient petroglyphs. These rock carvings of humans, deer, elk, buffalo, turtles, thunderbirds, and arrows tell a story that spans over 7,000 years. Glyphs were used to depict events, sacred ceremonies, and the importance of animals and hunting. Visitors to the site can view a multimedia presentation, check out interactive exhibits, learn how to hunt buffalo using an Atlatl, and tour a Sioux Quartzite rock that features over 4,000 petroglyphs.
