Affordable John Derian!

It’s not going to be around long, so hurry, hurry: the much ballyhooed John Derian for Target Collection launches this Sunday, and will be pulled from shelves by October 26. New York decoupage artiste Derian has developed a loyal following for his nostalgic-if-slightly-creepy handmade glass platters, paperweights and other ephemera. At Ampersand, a single coaster with a bee on it is $25; a multi-piece wallhanging of a medical skeleton illustration is $880. Which is why the Target collection is such a revelation—nothing reaches higher than $29.99 (for a large cylinder vase). Personally, I’m digging the “yellowed” desk blotter with old-timey script, butterfly shadowbox, and insect magnets …
