Your Date to Indulge

There’s something pretty spectacular about skimming crisp, quiet blue waters on skis, especially on a gorgeous summer night. And sipping a cool cocktail in the blazing sun, with toes in the water? Feels practically priceless—especially this time of year.

But after further evaluation, despite all my Minnesota summer love, March is my favorite.

Yes, March.

barThat’s because this Kelly Green Girl, who is almost entirely Irish, adores March 17 and all the Celtic bag-pipin’ revelry. And what falls on the same day this year? Selection Sunday. (Yes, college basketball fans, it’s later this year.) That means my second love, March Madness, has begun. Bring on the buzzer beaters and Cinderella stories! Last but not least, to start off this wonderful month and officially tip the scales, is The Most Delicious Weekend of the Year.

March 2 & 3, 2013 marks Minnesota Monthly‘s 19th Food & Wine Experience. I’ve experienced seven—and lived to rave about it!

It truly is a weekend of indulgence. Over 200 wine, beer, and food vendors fill the classy Legends and Metropolitan Clubs within Minneapolis’ gorgeous Target Field (overlooking the field, of course) and serve samples introducing lots of the best local eats and wine from all over the world.

Frankly, I’d enjoy an afternoon of wandering the many booths and gorging on samples even if I was alone—but it’s the perfect excursion for couples. (Reminder, procrastinators: Valentine’s Day is this Thursday!) The Grand Red Tasting is an especially nice gesture for your loved one, where you can get dressed up and enjoy tastings in a more intimate setting at The W Minneapolis, and then stay for the weekend. (Special event rate for all Food & Wine Experience attendees: starting at $109 per night for February 28 through March 3, 2013.)

Any way you go, The Experience is memorable: The views are stunning. The excitement palpable. The food divine. And the wine? The beer? Free-flowing and definitely tasty. It’s only 17 days away… don’t let the weekend pass by! Buy your tickets today. You won’t regret it, I promise.
