While Traveling, Keep Your New Year's Resolutions. Part 2: Exercise

Come back each Monday in January to learn how you can keep your New Year’s resolutions when traveling in Minnesota. (Part 1: Save Money.)

When it comes to staying active while you’re traveling, you’ve come to the right place. Forbes recently named the Twin Cities area the country’s healthiest place because of our biking and walking trails, our parks, our low obesity rate, and our statewide ban on smoking in public places. No matter what the weather, it’s easy to find a way to exercise in Minnesota.

Rollerblade RollerDome: Did you know that two Minnesota brothers invented Rollerblades? If blading is your thing, head over to the Metrodome (easily accessible by light rail) in downtown Minneapolis, where several nights a week it becomes the RollerDome. Rent a pair of skates and sail around the smooth, half-mile loop. For all levels and abilities. Admission: $4.50-$6.50, skate rental $5, protective gear free. Check out the short informational video below.

Lululemon Yoga: Sure, you might already know about this retailer’s awesome yoga pants, but did you know you can also walk into a free yoga class? Every Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Mall of America location, people (of all ages and levels) gather together and do some yoga.

Skiing: We’ve already mentioned places to downhill ski, like Wild Mountain and locations up north, but you can also find some great cross-country ski and snowshoe trails at Theodore Wirth Park, Lebanon Hills Regional Park, Gooseberry Falls State Park, and many more Minnesota state park ski trails.

Hiking: Walking, running, and hiking in the Twin Cities area and in southern Minnesota is relatively painless this year, even though it’s mid-January. We don’t have much snow! But even when we do, the locals are still out and about hiking the Chain of Lakes, city trails, and state park trails year-round.

Hotel Fitness Centers: Don’t miss the opportunity to exercise right in your hotel. Many Minnesota properties offer fitness centers housing the finest equipment.
