Neighborhood Spotlight: 50th & France

Neighborhood Spotlight: 50th & France

Many towns have clear auras or personas. They're built from architecture, experiences, collective wardrobes, and yes, probably a few stereotypes. But they paint a picture of a place, and for me, Edina—especially the 50th & France area, on the edge of Minneapolis—is distinctly female. A classy, stylish, active female.

That's probably because friends and I usually meet there to shop and stroll. And dine. Maybe even get pampered. So though I live on the east side of the Twin Cities, I don't hesitate to "Go West" for this destination.

Bariro Edina50th & France has hot mama (what a name) clothing, Nani Nalu beachware, culinary gadgets and classes at Cooks of Crocus Hills, plus lots of high-end fashion and boutiques. In fact, if you look at the entire long list of area business, there's quite a tilt toward services and apparel just for women.

The past couple of years, I've also gone there to shop for bridal gowns and bridesmaid dresses, and what's more female-centric than that?!

Guys, there might not be a lot for you (General Sports? Groom the dog?), specifically, but wander into most shops for great gift ideas—and I highly recommend the burgers at Salut or tacos and quacamole at Barrio. And everyone has a reason to visit soon: Pumpkin Fest on October 27, 2012. It's a family-friendly day full of festive treats, costumes, and activities.

Stay in tune with all the area's goings-on via 50thandfrance.com. Per the 50th & France Business and Professional Association, it's the "pre-eminent destination for the discerning consumer desiring a charming neighborhood experience."
