March 2009
March 30, 2009Wanted: Bargain Hunters with Good TasteI always get giddy over a good bargain. I drop everything when J.Crew launches its occasional 30-percent-off sale online. I'm crazy about the designer finds at Saks Off 5th. I don't really buy much for full price. Why would you when it's eventually going to go on sale? My bargain-hunting capabilities were recently put to the test on a Twin Cities Live fashion challenge. Read more » Posted on Monday, March 30, 2009 in Style File | Permalink | Comments (5) |

March 23, 2009You Could Really Use a MassageOh this in-between time of year, this Middlemarch with its on again/off again warmth. Just when the chill of winter starts to loosen its grip on your body, a week of rain and 40-degree days pulls you right back in. I suggest a little forced R & R to stimulate what spring should actually feel like: warm, soothing, and invigorating. March 18, 2009More Big, Fat Sales
I thought I might get tired of writing about all the crazy sales that keep cropping up, but so far—no. Each one is better than the last. March 9, 2009Recession-Proof Beauty

That was until I finally accepted that my investments, balanced and Suze Orman-endorsed though they might be, were not going to return to their flush, early 2007 levels overnight. The jig was up and I was down 37.4 percent. Only recently did I find myself logging into my little account and almost hoping for an even bigger red number. It felt naughy, like when I don't finish an article in the Economist, but I had good reason: Jon Charles Salon Stimulus Package. If you've never been to the sleek Uptown establishment, book an appointment now and present your 2008 401(k)... Read more » Posted on Monday, March 9, 2009 in Style File | Permalink | Comments (1) |

March 5, 2009Oh, Baby!
Confession: I have purchased a few baby clothes. I don't have a baby. I don't want a baby (at the moment). I simply can't resist tiny, adorable things—particularly puppies, booties, and bonnets. While I can't complain about not being able to wield a stroller through this basinet-sized shop, I'm pretty sure my tote would knock out a mobile or two. I think I went in once, and mostly because I love owner Mary Lauer's shabby chic home goods store, Que Sera. I didn't last long and I never went back—not because the designer diaper bags, custom furniture, and crazy-cute clothing wouldn't make exceptionally stylish gifts for all my mom friends, but because it was just too hard to shop in such a...
