The New Juut, cont.

Ever since David Wagner shared his vision over lunch, I've been eagerly anticipating the Edina Juut Salonspa's relocation from York Avenue to David Fhima's old Louis XIII space at Southdale. The announcement arrived a few weeks ago, and I took a tour on Friday.

Self, Contained

I'm organized in a to-do list sort of way. It's satisfying to check things off. I also like to arrange my clothes by season, and then by color. It's easier to find things that way. In general, I like to keep everything else in my home and office fairly neat and tidy, because mess stresses me out, but I don't have any systems.

Lately, however, I've been especially tempted to overhaul my closets, shelves, and work stations with some fun and functional organizational products. Maybe it's fall that brings out the nester in me, or the space challenges of my really old house, but most likely it's my knee-jerk reaction to how stylish these things are:

Fashion 101

Last week I joined Alison Kaplan and Laura Stephens on a "Fashion in the Media" panel discussion at Fashion Group International's annual career day. The attendees were students from colleges around the Midwest, but you wouldn't know from looking at them. These girls (and a few lucky guys) were straight out of Teen Vogue. I'm talking fierce outfits. Not suits and pearls. Dresses. Belts. Hats. Royal blue pumps. Designer handbags.

Design Call

Calling all aspiring fashion designers!

The DIVA MN committee is searching for designers for its annual fashion show. This charity event, which benefits HIV/AIDS awareness in Minnesota, is one of the most established and well--ttended runway events in the Twin Cities. Last year, however, some critics were unimpressed with the fashions. I would personally love to see a show that's both entertaining and approachable. There's a not-so-fine-line between art and fashion, and the majority of us want to want to wear the clothes we see going down the runway.
