Pedal Minnesota to the Rescue
It’s National Bike Month! So if your bike—like mine—has been sitting dormant inside your garage or house for the past seven months of winter, it’s about time for a tune-up in preparation for summer biking.
This Saturday, May 4, Pedal Minnesota is kicking off the summer biking season with an event at the Midtown Greenway in south Minneapolis between Lyndale Avenue and Colfax Avenue. Free tune-ups, repairs, and bike mechanics will be on hand for help from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
"We're excited to kick-off summer in our bike-friendly state," said John Edman, director of Explore Minnesota Tourism. "Pedal Minnesota strives to make biking easy and accessible for everyone, and places Minnesota on the map as a great destination to bike."
Not only is Minnesota a great place to bike, but in 2010 Bicycling Magazine also named Minneapolis “America’s Best Biking City.” To keep us as the best, Pedal Minnesota, along with Explore Minnesota and HealthPartners, are offering free bicycle tune-ups at semi-permanent stations located around the metro area in May, June, and July. All stations will include bike repair tools and an air compressor tire pump—but no mechanics will be around to help, so make sure to attend Saturday’s event to learn how to use the stations.
If you can’t make it this Saturday, find your nearest bike station:
