Are you planning to jet across the Atlantic to celebrate Europe Day this Friday? Me neither. Lucky for us, the American Swedish Institute of Minneapolis is hosting Cocktails at the Castle—a celebration reminiscent of college house parties of years past, but decidedly for the older, more sophisticated set.

Partygoers can spread out across the beautiful lawn or mingle inside the historic Turnblad Mansion.  And like any great host, ASI has set up plenty of activities to keep guests entertained.

Music by local band Still Pacific and DJ Jake Rudh will set the mood for a European-inspired dance party, and on the lawn, guests can learn (or relearn) drinking games courtesy of the Germanic American Institute.

If you’re looking for something more laid-back, you can check out the DIY paper art facilitated by the Minnesota Center for Book Arts, or watch short, European-themed films curated by the Film Society of Minneapolis St. Paul. ASI will also open its galleries for guests to enjoy the launch of Love Norway X: Installations by Ian Ward Garlant, and the final days of Papercut! The Incredible Psaligraphy of Karen Bit Vejle!.

Regardless of one’s preferred party scene, good food and drinks are always unifiers. The museum’s acclaimed restaurant, FIKA, will serve up European favorites paired with cocktails from Får North Spirits and beers from Indeed Brewing.

ASI offers a welcome night out without exorbitant international airfare; one can bring friends—or meet some there—and celebrate Europe without ever leaving the Twin Cities.

WHAT: Cocktails at the Castle: Swedish House Party
WHEN: Friday, May 9, 7-11 p.m.
WHERE: American Swedish Institute, Minneapolis
