Get Hands and Feet Valentine’s-Day Ready

Advice from Janelle Lowe at Solimar Wellness Spa

With their grand opening last spring in the Radisson Blu at the Mall of America, Solimar Wellness Spa now has two relaxing locations. Known for their dedication to their clients’ health, beauty, and well-being, this was the perfect place to go for advice on this week’s post on getting hands and feet pretty for Valentine’s Day, just a few weeks away.

Let me introduce you to Janelle Lowe—meticulous and talented, she’s one of Solimar’s highly trained nail technicians, and she was kind enough to share her top tips for keeping hands and feet hydrated and beautiful in the dead of winter. Her suggestions are simple, effective, and sure to make your skin soft and supple again.

Me: Do you have any tips for getting hands and feet pretty for Valentine’s Day, and to help them survive all the hand-washing of the dry Minnesota winter and cold and flu season??

Janelle: Lotions work fine, but even better are deep-moisturizing therapy creams.
One recommendation is Rocco Altobelli’s hand and foot therapy cream. This cream is great for relief from dry, cracked skin. It also helps by improving the appearance of calloused feet.

If you prefer a more natural alternative, try making your own scrub at home. Here’s how:
3          Tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
2          Tbsp. honey
1/2     c. sugar (brown or white)
Optional: pure honey and fresh lemon juice|
Combine ingredients in small bowl. Mix well. Apply to hands, feet, or use as a face scrub. Massage into the skin using gentle circular motions. Rinse with warm water.

This natural scrub can be used on your hands, feet, or face. The sugar helps remove dead skin cells, while the honey and olive oil smooth out the skin. It’s a great way to naturally combat dryness while obtaining smooth skin, which many of us seek—especially with Valentine’s Day around the corner.

Me:  Janelle, do you have any suggestions for a festive red polish that falls along the lines of being sophisticated and still reads as glamorous?

Janelle: “A couple nail color recommendations for this Valentine’s Day are from CND Shellac: Decadence and Ruby Ritz. Both colors are gorgeous, rich reds. Decadence is the lighter of the two shades, and has the flawless look of a perfectly bloomed rose. If you want to be a bit bolder, go for the Ruby Ritz, which is a glittery, sparkly swirl of deep, luscious red. Both colors would go great with any skin tone and are sure to turn heads this Valentine’s Day.

Thank you, Janelle! Now our hands will be soft and sassy for Valentine’s and the rest of the winter.
