We can't all be culinary geniuses and master chefs. But after two full days of following some of the best Minnesota talent compete at the 2012 Minnesota Monthly Local Chef Challenge last weekend (and watching Doug Flicker from Piccolo take home the crown!), perhaps you're inspired.

Wholesome Kitchen: delicious recipes with beans, lentils, grains, and other natural foods by Ross Dobson has such gorgeous photography by Peter Cassidy that you'll want to eat it off the page—and make the meals immediately. And the cooking techniques aren't too complicated.
The bonus is that these recipes focus on seasonal farmers' market finds, which make the shopping more fun and the results pretty healthy.
