Owl City checks in from the road

Tour Tweets

He’s Minnesota’s reigning rock star, having sold more than 500,000 copies of his 2009 debut album, Ocean Eyes. But Owatonna’s Adam Young (a.k.a. Owl City) may also be our state’s most prodigious Twitterer. Chronicling his current world tour, he’s adding about 5,000 fans a week to his 190,000-some followers, who include such celebrities as Taylor Swift and, improbably, Shaq.

Not that Young actually knows them. “I don’t find the glamorous, social side of the business particularly interesting,” he says. Instead, he prefers hanging out the tour-bus window, noting the sights. “I saw a guy running down the sidewalk wearing shorts, cowboy boots, and a holster crammed with cans of Mountain Dew,” he wrote a few weeks back. Here, a selection of Young’s recently Tweeted observations.

"Never try to teach a pig to sing. It wastes your time and annoys the pig."

"Never buy a car you can't push."

"Shows get cancelled all the time. The world still goes around, pancakes are still flat, and maple syrup is still tasty."

"Breakfast in New York, dinner in London, luggage in Brazil."

"I was about to plug in my new Sears hair dryer but I read 'Do not use while sleeping' on the back of the box, so I gave up and went to bed."
