Patric Richardson's Consignment Heaven

Patric Richardson has been known to weep over pieces he’s collected for Mona Williams, the designer consignment store he recently opened in Minneapolis. It’s how he got that gorgeous 1970s Halston dress. “The owner didn’t intend to sell it,” he confided. “But when she saw my reaction, she offered it up.”

When Richardson broached the idea of opening a store, contacts from his years at Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus—women who roll in Chanel and McQueen—connected him with friends to contribute inventory. He now has a collection worthy of a museum: Prada, a handbeaded Lacroix jacket, a snakeskin Fendi bag (a bargain at $1,700).

Browsing Mona Williams is a little like stepping behind a velvet rope. Not that Richardson is precious about the clothing . “I want people to play in them,” he says, admiring his wares. “I want to dress them up.”
