Sue Z.'s Finds

Sue Z.'s Finds

Minnesota-made snacks are everywhere these days. You’ll surely get a few laughs from the glossary printed on the cartons of Uffda Chips, made from potato lefse and seasoned salt. The chips are made by Norsland Lefse in Rushford and can be purchased right at the factory or ordered online (norslandlefse.com).

If pickles are your passion, pick up a jar of Knaus sweet horseradish pickles from Knaus Sausage House (knaussausagehouse.com) in Kimball or at Grass Roots Gourmet in the Midtown Global Market (midtownglobalmarket.org).

Another favorite new foodie find from Grass Roots Gourmet are nummy Proper People toffee waffles, a handmade-in-Minnesota version of the Dutch stroopwafel. They’re just the right size to set on top of a hot beverage where the steam will melt the waffle’s caramel center. (Order at toffee-waffle.com or find them at the St. Paul and France 44 Cheese Shops, stpaulcheeseshop.com, france44cheeseshop.com).

Sue Zelickson is the founder and director of Women Who Really Cook and Perspectives Family Center’s Kids Cafe. She is the former host of WCCO Radio’s Food for Thought.
