Les Misérables is based on Victor Hugo’s classic book set around the French Revolution. Customarily described as “operatic” and “epic,” this musical follows the life-long struggle of Jean Valjean, a former convict, and his search for redemption. Director Karen Weber, a BCT favorite, takes a fresh look at this unforgettable musical with an emphasis on the human spirit. As she writes in her Director’s Notes: “The heart of this piece speaks to the resiliency and transformative power of love for the human heart that resonates in all men…it is a story of one man’s path to transcendence.” Bringing that journey to life, BCT is proud to welcome back to their stage Dieter Bierbrauer in the lead role. Along with fellow Actor’s Equity member William Gilness as Javert, the officer searching for Valjean, they bring intensity to the conflict between the characters and their beliefs to new heights. They are joined onstage with a strong cast chosen out of nearly 400 audition participants. Backed by a full orchestra playing the newest release of the 25th Anniversary score, this is a production not to be missed!
