For the first time, the Women of the World Poetry Slam will hold its annual championship tournament in Minneapolis. In the largest gathering of women slam poets, 80 world-class competitors will vie for three nights (March 6-8) and the top 12 will advance to the final round (March 9).
The fifth annual Women of the World Poetry Slam festival will stage preliminaries at Kieran’s Irish Pub and the Institute of Production and Recording (IPR), with the finals at Aria at Jeune Lune.
March 6: A preliminary bout (Last Chance Slam) consisting of a random drawing of 12 poets who compete to see who gets the last spot in the tournament.
March 7: All poets compete in two preliminary slams. The first night, poets perform a four-minute poem and a one-minute poem. Two rounds are held in each venue at 7 p.m. & 9 p.m.
March 8: All poets perform a two-minute poem and a three-minute poem in rounds at 7 p.m. & 9 p.m. The 12 poets with the highest ranking after both preliminary bouts will advance to the finals.
March 9: The top poets face off in a three-round finals competition to determine the Women of the World Poetry Slam Champion.
