Heart of the Event Awards

Minnesota Monthly’s Heart of the Event Award is an opportunity for non-profits to nominate a volunteer within their organizations for one of their special events. These award winners go above and beyond the call of duty. They make these events possible because of their big hearts and consistent dedication.

Welcome,

We live in a community blessed with a rich tradition of philanthropy for social services, education, and the arts. This annual Charitable Registry lists an array of social and special events, all benefiting local charities. We organized these events into a calendar-based format to provide users with a quick and comprehensive reference of the charitable opportunities available to support throughout the year.

Our hope it that this charitable events calendar will stimulate even more support for the philanthropic legacy that has placed Minnesota among the most generous states in the nation.

In fact, a recent study of our subscribers by Monroe Mendelsohn Research company found that our readers are extremely generous contributors–giving an estimated $180 million in philanthropic donations in the past year.

But the benefits of your collective generosity far exceed monetary measures alone; your personal involvement makes the critical difference. None of the activities listed here would be possible without your individual efforts to make a difference.

Thank you for playing such a pivotal role in the vitality of our nonprofit community.

Make an Impact and Change People’s Lives through Charitable Giving

Most people have philanthropic tendencies, they just need options and choices to determine how they can best make an impact and change people’s lives.

“We see time and again people from all income levels making philanthropy a priority in their financial plans,” says Jean Vukas Roberts, vice president of development for Minnesota Community Foundation and The Saint Paul Foundation. “For some, philanthropy is a family tradition, while others may come to a point in their lives when they want to give back. It’s a matter of determining what matters to you and how you want to accomplish your goals. There are so many options, and community foundations often work in tandem with professional advisors to find charitable solutions for all situations.”

Hundreds of individuals and families choose the Minnesota Community Foundation and The Saint Paul Foundation because of the Foundations’ expertise, caring staff, and community knowledge. Donors support the causes they want, and appreciate the access to cutting-edge information regarding emerging trends and issues. The Foundation handles the administrative details and paperwork so that donors can focus on the joy of supporting to their favorite charities. They connect donors, nonprofits and issues to achieve philanthropic goals and contribute to the overall health and vitality of the community.

“We enjoy helping people create legacies for their communities,” Vukas Roberts says. “One of the best parts of this job is talking with people about what motivates and inspires them and working with them to create a charitable giving program that meets those objectives.”

Charitable giving is ideal for those who wish to provide family members and others with an opportunity to impact the community now and in the future. The Foundations provide a simple, powerful and highly personal approach to giving. Donors can give anonymously, access grant-making expertise, and network with others who care about the community.
