Jane Brattain retired as director of consumer affairs for Target Corporation 17 years ago to be a stay-at-home mom to daughter, Katie. Dividing time between her daughter and volunteering, Jane, with husband, Don, committed herself to a variety of nonprofit groups, including Park Nicollet Clinic. Their first contribution was a blood lab for cancer patients, followed by a state-of-the-art breast biopsy machine.

Jane became the first patient to use that machine after a routine screening mammogram revealed a suspicious area on her breast. Following the subsequent cancer diagnosis and treatment, Jane and Don wanted to do something to help the next generation of women fight breast cancer. They poured time and resources into the center that now bears her name. A sculpture in the Jane Brattain Breast Center lobby sums up her feelings about breast cancer. “It’s about hope, fear and a desire to protect our daughters.

“We wanted a place that offered the kind of attention patients deserve. We have the best staff and latest technology combined with a focus on little things like fresh flowers, spa-like robes, soft lighting and original art to help reduce patients’ anxiety and fear,” says Jane. “We understand it’s hard to wait for test results, so our goal is to get them to patients quickly and accurately.”

Since 1995, Jane Brattain Breast Center has diagnosed more than 2,000 cancers, with a survival rate that is better than the national average.

Jane continues to devote time to the center, and also serves on Park Nicollet Health Services’ board of directors and as a capital campaign chair to raise money for a new cancer center. She also continues her commitment to children and family through work as a board member of The National Institute on Media and the Family, and as past president of the Breck School’s Parents’ Association.
